Windsor Streetcar

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

A former SW&A streetcar lays to rest in a field at the Halton County Radial Railway.  Could we one day be penning a new chapter in Windsor’s history as being a leader in light rail public transportation?

Drouillard Road – 1906 Church

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

Drouillard road is a district that retains its 1930s working class charm; a blank canvas ripe for revitalization, its historic structures unscathed by the scourge of aluminum cladding, stucco, and other cruel “renovations”.

Pain Court, Ghost Town

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

Obviously once a busy town centre, this intersection on Winter Line road is now vacant and derelict, of interest only to motorists quickly passing through.  The old roadhouse appears to have served as multi-residential for a time.

Railway X-ing Wigwams

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Today we set the wayback machine for the 1930s.  Where the CN tracks cross Gleeson Line in Tilbury there exists what may be the last operational set of railway crossing wigwams in Canada.  Mention has been made in the last year that these will be soon replaced by modern crossing signals.

Celtic Fest

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

Don’t let anyone tell you there’s nothing to do in Windsor; at least not for the next three weeks!  Summerfest kicked off yesterday.  Today’s photo is from Celtic Fest at the Windsor Armouries, which runs this whole weekend along with the Red Bull Air Race.  Downtown Windsor is alive.

Smoke On!

Friday, June 12th, 2009

Red Bull Air Race is back in Windsor for the second year.  Hundreds gathered at the riverfront Friday to watch the pilots practicing on the course while CUPE pickets continued to march along the sidewalks, joined by out-of-town reinforcements bused in on free coaches.
